Hello guys, and welcome back to Motion Game. I am Motion Ape, and today I will give you the review of Crystal Saga. It’s a 2.5D web browser-based game that is published by Reality Squared Games. The game itself, like any other web-browser game, does not need to be downloaded to be played. You just have to create an account, and play it straight from your web browser. So, you don’t have to worry about spacing up your hard disk. It may filled your browser cookies, but you can just clean it up CCleaner.
Crystal Saga is a web-based MMORPG that has a good quality of graphic (to be compared with other web-browser games) with cute character and world design and a game that has a long story as the main quest. You might encounter many grindings in this game, but there are also some side-quests to help you experience the game in a more "”story” way. There are a lot of features provided in the game such as pet, mount, soul development system, and many other features, so it won’t be a boring game to try or even to get serious at. The game itself is easy to learn and GUI friendly (simple user interface) and the game system will guide you through the quests.
At first, of course you have to create an R2 Games account, or, you can just use your Facebook, Yahoo!, Google, or Windows Live ID account to make life more easier. After logging in with your account, you can select which server that you would like to play (but you cannot use your character that you have build in one server to be played in other server. Choose wisely, ask your friends if you have referrer).
Create your character!
After choosing the server, and here we are in the character creation. As you can see from the picture below, you can choose 1 from 5 different classes which are Knight, Rogue, Priest, Ranger, and Mage. Each type has it own uniqueness, attributes, and skills. You can also pick a gender and choose which display picture for your character (does not effect your in-game character)
After you are happy enough with your character, I will tell you a bit about the character features. Each job type, will have another 2 different branches that you can choose. And each branch have different skills, but you can have skills from both sides. It just depends on what build you are making. You can have a title which you can obtain through some achievements (some title has a bonus). There is also rank (nobility) and PVP type to determine are you a good or an evil character. You can create a party to have fun around with your friends, or you can join (or make) a guild for a bigger and more serious community in Crystal Saga. Many things you can do when you are in a guild, like guild daily quests, or have a resource battle with other guilds.
Into the game!
As you start your game, Goddess of Fate will greet you, and you will learn that you are a reborn from a warrior of the last great battle. And voila~ welcome to the world Vidalia! The game system, from here, will guide you through the beginning of the game telling you what is the background story and also how to play Crystal Saga. Easy guidance is shown as a big arrow telling you to “Click Here". I recommend you to follow the main quest to learn more and it’s the fastest way to level up and also get free stuffs.
Later in the game, you will obtain a pet which is your battle companion. Pet has unique skills and they act randomly (but you can choose between Attack or just Follow). They level up and you can organize its attribute, you can choose which pet to be summoned from other pets that you have obtained, and you can also evolve your pet by using an item. Other than pet, you can also obtain your mount. A mount can be used to help you travel faster (though its weird that your first mount is a turtle. And turtle walks faster than you in Crystal Saga). You can also evolve your mount by using an item, and some mounts can also attack.
Other than the character, pet, and mount system, there are also many other interesting features from item socketing, item enchanting, wings, game shop, AFK mode, aaaaand many others. but I can’t explain it all here because it would take pages for further information you can go to the official site, or to the wikia page.
And here we are, my list of what’s good and what’s not quite good about Crystal Saga.
What’s good?
+ You are able to reset your skills in the future (level 50, or purchase from game shop, or guild contribution, or Dragon Hunt)
+ Soul development system, pet development system, mount development system, equipment enchanting and socketing, and dungeon instances (which are some pretty good features for a web-based game)
+ Auto-move to quest to make your life easier and hotkeys to help you in the game
+ AFK Mode which is pretty unique for Crystal Saga. Its like a grinding bot, but official.
+ Easy guide for beginners (remember the big arrow from before?)
+ Free items everyday (Dragon Hunt) and free online coupons (2 coupons/online hour)
What’s not quite good?
- Automated low-level deletion. Well this is a dilemma because it has a good side and a bad side as well. The good side is the server is kept clean from inactive low level characters. Well, don’t want them to fill the server, right? The bad side is, well what if he/she plays back? It would be bad for them.
- Repetitive gameplay, though it has stories and quests, but you mainly kill monsters or collect items.
- Pay-to-win, just like free MMORPG these days
- Limited character creation (as you can see from the Character Creation screenshot)
And that is all guys for Crystal Saga review. I have to say that Crystal Saga is a good game to play for fun or in a serious way. Go on, check it out here and find it out yourself. It’s free and you don’t need to pay to have a “so much win” if you just want to play it for fun. Its still playable You can get free Crystals anyway from doing some survey or other offers. Many people share the guides in the forum and wikia, so it would be good to research the guide before jumping on the ball.
