This game is actually still in Open Beta and the server is located in U.S.
Metal Assault is published by Aeria Games and now played with players from all around the world. This cartoon-graphic 2D shooter game resembles Metal Slug. Players are able to choose 1 from 4 different types of soldier (which we can also choose 1 of 4 characters in Metal Slug) and each of them have unique status.
Well rounded character with an equal distribution in HP, MP, SP, and Speed. Great for new players.
With high HP, he makes a great front line character.
Long ranged specialist. She has low HP, but makes up for it in high damage and speed.
The scout / support character with high SP and Speed, but lower HP.
Each of this character has their own abilities, advantages, and disadvantages. For newbies, I recommend you to choose Carl because he has equal distribution to all elements. If you want to be the ‘tank’ of the field, defend and cover your teammates with Burton because he has the highest HP among all. If you choose this character, be sure to stay in the front line and heal when needed. Marie is a little bit hard to play because she has the lowest HP among all. This character is suited for long-range battle and you can run faster than other with her. Sniper might be the best weapon for her to use since it can zoom from point A to Z . And the last-but-not-least is Ai which is also my personal choice of character. Ai does not have much HP like Marie and she acts as the support and scout in the battlefield. She runs quite fast and reliable in mid-range battle.
CONTROLS
The controller of Metal Assault is quite simple.
- WASD movement:
Your basic character movement controls. (A: left D: right)
- A + A or D + D
Roll to the left or right (bullet/bomb dodge).
- A or D + W
Move up a ramp or stairs when there is an option for up or down.
- A or D + S
Climb ladders and move up a ramp/stairs when there is an option for up or down.
- S + Space
Drop through "open" ground to the next level below. Can also be used to slide down ladders.
GAME MODES
There are 3 types of game modes that you can choose while you are in the waiting room (Lobby).
- Battle Mode
This mode challenge you to have a PvP battle with other players.
- Death Match: A classic favorite, this mode is all about raking in the kills (and of course, trying not to die).
- Capture the Camp: Compete against the other team to capture a strategic military point.
- Zombie Infection: You've entered a highly contagious zone and one of your team members is already infected. Will humanity survive, or be crushed by the power of the undead? (Metal Assault, http://metalassault.aeriagames.com/guide/modes)
Death Match would be the most common battle mode that you will find in the waiting room. Use your resources wisely because it would be bad if you run out of ammo. And be sure to check your supplies such as healing items and grenades to help you through your fight with other players. You can also learn skills to make your game-life easier. If you run out of ammo during the fight (if you do not choose to just die), you can refill your ammo at your base by waiting the ammo-counter until 100%, but you will have to wait for sometime to refill your ammo again.
- Mission Mode
I told you that this game resemble much with Metal Slug (we even call “Metal Slug Online” for this game), and this game mode challenge players to do missions solo or together with other players. There is a story behind the mission (history of HERZ city), and players have to defeat every mission along the path to meet the boss!
- Co-op Mode
Work together with other players to survive the zombies, skeletons, and other types of enemies! Players are able to upgrade things such as their attack, defense, fire-rate, and speed. They are also able to fill their HP and MP with the upgrade points, also to unlock airstrike (which has 3 levels) to wipe out the enemies.
Also be sure to check your supplies just like in the battle mode. It would be hard to save your ammo because you will have to race with other players to take the ammo stack which can be obtained by killing the enemies (randomly dropped).
In the Death Escape map (which is, I think, the best Co-op map), you will have to reach the top of the building and escape with the helicopter. This map reminds me of Left for Dead, really. It is quite hard to maintain your ammo because you will need to rush for the ammo stack, otherwise other player will take them, or you just have to reach the checkpoint to refill your ammo. But for some other maps, you will be able to refill your ammo at the checkpoint which sometimes located in your own base, or in the middle of the map which is easier, and if you ride a vehicle, you can refill your ammo in the ammo depot for vehicle (for Tomahawk743, it’s the windmill thingy).
And don’t worry, the game is not only about joining the room and defeat your enemies. You are also able to accept quest from many NPC’s, shop for new weapons, armors, and accessories to create a more powerful character. Meet new friends and have a chat while you are having a free-time. Create a discussion, create a strategy, or just mess around in the city with your friends. Please do say hello if you meet my character MotionApe
You are able to download and visit the official website through the Download section of Motion Game. That is all for my review today, I hope you enjoy it, happy gaming and have a nice day!
