Hello guys! Welcome back to Motion Game, this is Motion Ape and today I will give you a review about Rusty Hearts before I will be busy with my mid-term exam starts (which is actually next week). And yes, Rusty Hearts, another unique free-to-play 3D action MMORPG that is developed by WindySoft and published by Perfect World. The graphic is anime-style and it is actually pretty good and the gameplay is quite fun for an action MMORPG.
In Rusty Hearts, you don’t go around the world slaying monsters, but actually you go for dungeon instances. You will take missions (or freely just enter the dungeon) that you have unlocked based on your level. The fighting focuses on the real-time combat, so its not by clicking the enemy and wait till it dies. But rather you use your keyboard (which you can also use your gamepad) to move and position your character, choose your skill and do your kill. By learning the skills, you can also create a combo to finish the enemies. For the player base, I would say medium player base because you don’t really find many people in the town, but it’s still easy to join a party because you can propose to join a party in town at any time (if available). I have tried it before, and it is easy to team up with people in the range of your level. It is more fun to play Rusty Hearts with other people, of course
Create (or more like choose) your character
In Rusty Hearts, there are 4 basic characters that you can choose. And each character have 4 slots (means total of 16 character slots), this will allow you to create different types of same character (probably the skills or equipment set). You cannot customize the character a single bit, so you will only choose the character and play it. Each character will have different background story, which will also give you a different story in the following game.
Different character will wield different weapon and different stats distribution;
1. Frantz Kruger, he is a human-vampire guy that uses sword or axe as his weapon. His alternate avatars are Roselle Vergerius and Leila Vergerius.
2. Angela Strraughend, she is a witch that wields magical sword or magical scythe. Her alternate avatar is Edgar Grosvenor.
3. Natasha Borzenkova, she is a gunner that uses dual revolver or a rifle. She does not have an alternate avatar (yet, probably).
4. Tude MacLoud, he is a normal human with a strong wolf-like left arm (due to his background story) that equips himself with gauntlet or claw. His alternate avatar is Meilin Chen.
Into the dungeon!
After you have chosen your character, you will start the game in Curtis Castle. This starting point will lead you to basic tutorial playing Rusty Hearts (basic attack, using skills) by fighting some easy skeleton enemies. After you have completed the tutorial, you will be sent to the main city. You will accept a quest and learn more about Rusty Hearts. Do some beginner quests for experience, item, and also basic knowledge about the game. At first, you won’t be able to access some parts of the city. But if you follow the main story (quest), you will unlock the region shortly.
If you want to start your dungeon adventure, go to the purple warp thingy and choose the available dungeon. You can choose the difficulties if you have completed the lower difficulties before. If you want to go with your party, the party leader will be the one to choose the map, but before that, all party members have to gathered in the warp together. When you are ready, lets get ready for battle!
You will arrive at the starting point, and will have to defeat all enemies in the area before opening the gate/door to another area. When you reach to the deepest part of the dungeon, you will encounter the boss. Early bosses are easy so do not worry. In each dungeon instances, there are chances that you will acquire hunter ticket, which can be used to trade for an item, and some bronze/silver/gold card to have an opportunity to receive an item at the end of the dungeon instance. After you have completed the dungeon, you can either choose to do it again, change the map, or just go back to town. Remember to bring some potions and upgrade your equipment if possible.
And here it comes, what’s good not what not quite good part of Rusty Hearts :
What’s good about it?
+ combo hack-n-slash gameplay which is fun to play
+ gamepad compatibility, but using the keyboard is not that hard though
+ wonderful anime-style graphic
+ story based characters
+ party matching which make players easier to meet another players with the same goals or mission or just to have fun together
+ you can customize your looks differently with other players by using costumes
+ great BGM, item crafting, and everyday luck (which gives you random boost everyday)
What’s not quite good about this?
- patch file is quite big for some players
- character/class is limited to gender
- choosing the world have to be done outside (might not be a big problem, but some players might find it weird)
- its nice that you can customize your character with costumes, but to unlock more it costs real life money
Overall rating? I would love to recommend you guys to try and play Rusty Hearts. It is a good 3D real-time action MMORPG and it is really fun to play with. There is also a PvP system so you can try your character build with another player. The types of PvP are Arena / Guild Battles / Tournaments, so you can choose what PvP gameplay you want to be into.
